FROM FASHION TO PAINTINGS
READ ABOUT CHRISTINA JULSGAARD AS A DESIGNER WITH HER OWN BRAND
Christina Julsgaard is an artist with a fascinating background in the fashion industry. Her journey began early, when she learned to master all aspects of the fashion world as a designer and buyer for a Danish fashion company. This experience paved the way for her own minimalist clothing brand, YIIP Copenhagen , which from 2001 to 2008 sold designs to 10 countries and was particularly recognized in Japan and Germany.
“I’ve always had a strong desire to create,” says Christina. “I love seeing ideas take shape and become something concrete that can make a difference in people’s lives. That’s always driven me.”

From Intern to Own Brand
Christina's story began at the design school TEKO in Herning, where she got an internship at a Danish fashion company, Nice Girl, as part of her education. Here, she went from being an intern to quickly becoming an important part of the team.
“I was lucky because they needed a designer. I could draw, was creative and diligent, and I did everything I could to learn as much as possible and give as much as possible back,” says Christina.
After four years at the company, where she spent a large part of her time as the company's designer and buyer traveling to Paris, London and especially the Far East to visit factories and negotiate with suppliers, she felt ready to stand on her own two feet. With a backpack full of experience, Christina began freelancing for various brands, while taking evening classes to improve her skills as a self-taught designer.
“I have always been driven by curiosity and the desire to improve myself. Starting my own brand was a natural next step,” she says.

The creation of YIIP Copenhagen
In 2001, Christina launched her first collection under the name YIIP Copenhagen . The style was minimalist with a twist – strongly inspired by the Asian countries she had traveled to. The collection quickly became a success, and within three weeks she had sold her designs to 25 Danish fashion stores.

“It was an incredibly exciting time. I used my old contacts in the Far East and Turkey to produce the clothes and worked around the clock to get everything in place – from collection samples to marketing materials. I learned that you can achieve a lot if you are really passionate about it,” says Christina.
She first opened a showroom in Frederiksberg and later a larger store in Vesterbro in Copenhagen. Here she sold her designs, paintings and carefully selected accessories that complemented the style. “It was important to me to create a universe where both the clothes and the art could be experienced as a whole,” she explains.

From Fashion to Art
Christina Julsgaard also found freedom and energy in painting, which at the time took a back seat to her clothing designs. “When I needed to gather my thoughts and feelings, I painted. It gave me a fantastic feeling of freedom and creative flow,” she says.
Elements from her abstract paintings were used as textile prints in the collections, and the paintings were exhibited in the store. However, painting began to fill more and more of her life. In 2008, Christina decided to phase out YIIP Copenhagen and focus fully on art.
“I felt that art allowed me to express myself on a deeper level. It was what I needed at that time in my life,” she says.
From 2006-2009, she simultaneously designed and produced the line SORA By Christina Julsgaard for the Belgian clothing chain JBC, which consisted of a chain of over 100 stores.

Creative Projects and Prestigious Enterprises
Since her transition to art, Christina has been involved in several notable projects. In 2011, she participated in the major international art project Elephant Parade , where she decorated a 130 cm tall elephant sculpture that was exhibited at the City Hall Square in Copenhagen and later auctioned for more than DKK 44,000 to benefit the conservation of Asian elephants.
She has also created a large mural for a hotel in Copenhagen, where her bright colors and intuitive, abstract style adorn several walls and provide guests with a unique and inspiring experience.
“It was amazing to work on a large scale and think in spatial contexts. Creating something that becomes part of a place and can inspire people in their everyday lives is really rewarding,” she says.
A Journey Driven by Creation
Christina Julsgaard is today a successful abstract artist who continues to exhibit her works in both Denmark and abroad. Her paintings have been shown in galleries and at art fairs in Shanghai, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Germany and many other places.
“I dream of continuing to create and use my art to connect people. It is my way of contributing to the world and spreading joy and energy,” she concludes.
